Columbia Bottoms
What is Columbia Bottoms?
Columbia Bottoms is
a conservation area for animals and plants.
It is 4,318 acres where the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers meet. In 1993, the big flood went over the levee and
flooded the bottoms. They are working
on making habitats more interesting and natural so that animals will come back
to make it their home.
Columbia Bottoms Future?
The Conservation
Department plans to make a visitor center to welcome people from all over the
area to walk the trails, ride bikes, fish, watch wildlife, learn about
conservation, and Lewis and Clark. The
Conservation Department is putting together a team of people plus looking for
ideas from anyone interested in this area.
One thing I am
interested in is the wildlife habitat.
They are trying to bring back deer, turkey, squirrels, and songbirds to
live here all year round. Also, they
want ducks, geese, and shorebirds to migrate here. Another area I am interested in is forest management. They are trying to grow trees in the forest
to help the plants and animals that live in the forest.
