Thank You, Mr. Slosberg

from the Leaders

Dear Mr. Slosberg, AKA. Pierre Cruzatte,

Yesterday was a most special and uplifting day for the Fourth and Fifth Grade of Barretts Elementary.  Not only was it "Wacky Hair Day" but you sailed in with your fiddle and carried us along the Lewis and Clark Trail with your amazing and energetic presentation. As you walked among the children and adults in the audience, they sailed right along with you as you fiddled, sang, danced, and engaged the audience in your drama, songs and playing of your many instruments.  As we commented later, they were willing to go anywhere with you as you told your story and you, most certainly, had them in the palm of your hand.

This brought to a close our Project, demonstrating the power of music to help us tell a story, to help us retain facts we otherwise would easily forget, to help us find a new place of joy for a moment or two.  In your case, it was for an unforgettable hour.

We will forever remember your willingness to lose yourself into the role of portraying the life of Pierre Cruzatte and bring a time of great happiness to our children. We cannot thank you enough for sharing your very special talents with us.

Our Student Thank You Thoughts

I loved the way you acted like Pierre. I really liked the Jaw Harp. I really liked how you had us participate with you.

You were really funny. You are really good at acting; My favorite instrument was the "bongy" thing (Jaw Harp). You were so good, I hope you go to other schools too.

I wish I could be as good as you are.

I would have to agree with you that now we know how important Pierre was on the trip. We cannot just remember him by the "accident".

I tried to play the violin the way you did but it was really hard.

I had a wonderful time learning from you. I liked your song you about "work all day and fiddle all night".

I learned so much about the journey of Lewis and Clark. Thank you for teaching me how to play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

I did not know that they sang and danced, on the journey, for the Indians. I liked this assembly a lot more than I thought I would.

I really liked your French accent!

I really liked the song, "Soldier's Joy". You play the violin really well.

Thanks for coming and sharing your talent with us. Thanks for letting me play your violin.

Thank you for coming to our school.  I really liked your show, especially since I have been studying Lewis & Clark.  I think you would have been great on the expedition because everyone would have had more fun.

I really enjoyed your show.  It was funny and we got to sing along, that's why I liked it.  I especially liked the part where we sang: Dance all night, fiddle all day, dance all night and fiddle all day, dance all night, fiddle all day, that's a soldiers joy, after which you played it on your insturment.  That was fun!

It was really cool and fun and I will remember it forever.
