Dance on Mars

Dance Project

We had a high school dance team come to visit us. They were very helpful and performed for us. They showed us how people might move on Mars. It was very interesting.

I really liked how they moved slowly like there was no gravity. I also liked how they lifted each other with different techniques. It was neat how they could do that.

They moved slowly and smoothly and that helped us determine how we would move on Mars. If we were on Mars we would flow and glide like we could fly.

They are very talented because they have to practice and have very strong muscles. I probably could not do that right now.

I really appreciate them coming out to see us. It was a long drive from their school. They were very helpful and we thank them very much.

Dance on Mars

A group of girls from Parkway North High School, called the Dance II Company, presented a dance to our Mars Millennium class. With peaceful music, they danced gracefully, showing us how movement would be on Mars.

The girls knew a lot about how your body would move on Mars. They used their bodies to sway to the music, almost as if there were not any forces against them. They found ways to lift each other up into the air, looking effortless, just like on Mars. These dances had to be difficult to perform, almost making you forget that there is gravity here on Earth. Their outfits were a silver metallic tight, which made you think of the outer space and how beings might look on another planet.

My favorite part of the dance was how they could lift each other up in the air. This took a lot of practice and team work to perform. They made it look so easy that perhaps when man really does reach Mars, their movements will be similar. We could almost float in the air on Mars with each step. I enjoyed the whole dance because it would be fun to experience this weightless feeling, even if someone lifted you up into the air!

Mars Dance Project

People have always wondered how it would feel to live on Mars. How would we breathe, eat and move? A dance company named Dance Company II came to our class and showed us how they think people will move on Mars. They showed us movements that exhibited weightless motion and people floating.

Earlier in the year before the performance, we had a teleconference with the dancers and they showed us some other movements they had thought of. The dancers also showed us a tape of a performance they put on. They made unusual poses by stacking their bodies in groups. The dancers also made moving and leaping look very easy by the way they held their arms and heads. Some bodies were made to look like they were floating. They did this because Mars has 1/3 the gravity of Earth. You can jump higher and float. When they looked like they were floating, they made me feel like I was floating or light weight. Some other movements made me feel like I was in the sky flying.

The things I liked about it were that they really looked like they were astronauts floating. I did not like how some of the positions did not look as weightless as the others.

Dance

When we had the dance teleconference with the dance team from Parkway North High School, CSD forgot to tape it so they came to Barretts and did the same dance.

The outfits they wore were leotards that were spray-painted. What was neat was that when you got close you could tell that they were different, but when you stood away they all looked the same. I thought that was weird and neat.

Some of their movements were neat. I really liked when they balanced a person on either shoulder and spun around. I also enjoyed it when they did the same on the legs and then they were actually weightless. Those were the things that I liked about the dance performance from the Parkway North Dance Team.
