Mars Millennium Parent's Night
May 29, 2001

Our Mars Millennium Parent's Night was a spectacular success. It was a wonderful and special evening for all Mission Specialists, Directors, and parents. The specialists had the opportunity to discuss their visions and creative ideas in a variety of ways. All participants were able to view the Martian terrain table and informational boards, the 2000-2001 Barretts Voyage to Mars web site, and our comprehensive teleconference video experiences. Details describing our video experiences follow.
One of our unique achievements this year included an Integrated Arts and Sciences video to be shared with the White House, the Millennium Council, U.S. Department of Education, NASA, National Endowment for the Arts, and the J. Paul Getty Trust.
It includes: Our personal talk with top NASA scientists: Dr. Thomas Dreschel, Director of Science Education, Life Sciences Support Contract and Fundamental Biology Outreach Program; Dr. Andrew Schuerger, Research Scientist, Plant Pathologist; Mrs. Barbara Peterson, Research Organic Chemist; (Dynamac Corporation, Kennedy Space Center). Dr.Bill Knott, Chief Scientist, Biological Programs; Dr. Ray Wheeler, ResearchScientist, Plant Physiologist (NASA, Kennedy Space Center. A Musical Conversation featuring Dr. Patti Riggle, Fine Arts Coordinator; Our Mission Specialists questioning the Mars Ensemble from Parkway South and Parkway South Middle and Jessica Barnes, composer, about sound on Mars and music of the future; Jessica Barnes, Parkway South Junior with her original composition for String Orchestra titled TO MARS AND BEYOND performed by the Mars Ensemble and conducted by Gayla Rothermich. It will be featured on TEMPO the MENC cable channel to be announced later and Parkway Channel 18 with Alex Peterson's Parkway program. The final section of the video features conversations with the Parkway North Dance II Company directed by Lorilee Richardson about how bodies will move on Mars and demonstrations in dance form. It ends with one of their four original dances they did for us. This video is a combination of the expertise of Cooperating School District, Alex Peterson, Film Specialist, and Julie Murray and Gayla Rothermich with our iMovie program. We are very proud of this video.

This is our Martian terrain table. It includes all of the Mission Specialist's visions for a community of 100 Earthlings inhabiting Mars.
